You may be looking to get a new high speed reel that will last. If so I highly recommend the Torium, this reel has proven to be durable and it’s probably the smoothest large conventional reel that I have picked up. It has been criticized by the skeptics who aren’t Shimano fans, some who have never had a Shimano reel in there life. Sometimes that is just the way it goes. The 4 ball bearings make it super smooth and it has great Super Stopper power.

I personally have put this reel through hell. I have caught large tarpon, jewfish in the 100lb range, many keeper grouper, and many other species of fish. You can use it for bottom fish but it would probably perform best on the pelagic fish such as small sails, king fish etc… One thing I did not like about the reel is that Shimano added a place on the bottom of the reel to tie the line around when not in use. If you hold your rod and reel for long periods of time, the line holder will start to dig into your hand. It’s not a big deal because it can easily be removed but it wasn’t the best place for it. Maintenance of the reel is super easy. Overall it is a winner in my book and Shimano keeps on producing quality. They know how to keep there competition on there toes.
